West Brom vs Aston Villa Betting Markets14/05/2019
The second leg of the play-off semi-final between Aston Villa and West Brom is tonight, with both teams desperate to book their place at Wembley on the 27th May.
Villa will be taking a 2-1 lead to the Hawthorns, after quickly turning things around in their first-leg tie. This victory came courtesy of two quick fire goals from Conor Hourihane and Tammy Abraham, with the latter coming from the penalty spot.
Tonight’s fixture looks destined to be another exciting affair, so ActiveWins have picked out a few betting markets that could contribute to the play-off drama.
Jay Rodriguez to Score – 6/4
Both Jay Rodriguez and Dwight Gayle have been the Baggies’ most prolific names this season. They have 45 goals between them in all competitions, with this form in-front of goal being a hugely influential factor behind West Brom reaching the play-offs.
However, after Gayle’s red card at Villa Park, the Englishman won’t be able to feature in the return leg at home. In his strike partner’s absence, the goal-scoring duties will lie on the shoulders of Rodriguez.
The ex-Southampton attacker came close to opening the scoring in the first leg, had it not been for a miraculous save from Jed Steer. In-front of the Baggies crowd though, Rodriguez will fancy himself to find the back of the net. He has 4 in his last 5 games at the Hawthorns and he should occupy the central role with Gayle missing.
In a game where West Brom must score, their main striker on the day will be expected to deliver.
Villa to Win and BTTS – 7/2
When the neutrals sit down to watch the game tonight, they will be expecting goals, and plenty of them.
Villa and West Brom usually deliver in the both teams to score market - in their last 14 games combined, this bet would have come in 11 times. The three exceptions? Reading, Millwall and Bolton – three of the four lowest scoring sides in the Championship.
Many punters may prefer this market at 8/13, but we fancy Villa to nick the win tonight. They looked dangerous going forward against West Brom in the first leg and Dean Smith likes to set his side up in an attacking manner.
They are unbeaten in their last 7 on the road and have won 6 in the process. There is some strong value in the Clarets, especially considering that the Baggies will come out in search of a goal. Villa have a strong balance between their defensive resilience and attacking threat, two attributes that they will need to put to good use tonight.
Player to Score From Outside the Area – 13/8
A bit more of a niche market with this betting outcome, but it is one that came in during the first leg. Gayle and Conor Hourihane were the two to make it happen, with the latter being some what of a peach.
West Brom have seen two of their strikes in the last three games be scored from outside the area, and Stefan Johansen’s goal against Derby Country was right on the line of the 18 yard box too. The same can also be said about Villa, with Gayle and Albert Adomah also registering strikes from a distance in the last couple of weeks.
Adomah’s did come with a slice of controversy, as Leeds United allowed the Ghanaian a free pass at goal. Still, the stats are there to support this betting market. On a night that could be tense, a few long range shots could be the best hope to split the difference between these two strong-looking sides.
