England v Panama | World Cup Betting Predictions and Odds

English fans may know very little about the nation of Panama aside from the famous waterway that bisects the Central American nation. However, that is all set to change this weekend as the Three Lions, in search of back-to-back victories, prepare to go toe-to-toe with the side ranked 55th in the world.

Gareth Southgate’s side are massive favourites for this clash and are currently priced up at 1/5 with our sportsbook partners Betfred to claim all three points against the CONCACAF representatives. With that in mind, it is certainly worth looking elsewhere for a bit of value in a game in which England should cruise to victory securing themselves a second round spot in the process.

England were reliant on a late goal from Harry Kane to edge their way past Tunisia in their opening fixture, but the 2-1 scoreline failed to accurately reflect England’s dominance, particularly in the first half. Twice hitting the bar and having two good penalty shouts waved away, England had plenty of chances in the first half and could have been a few goals to the good, with Jesse Lingard and Raheem Sterling also spurning golden opportunities.

The second half was a slightly cagier affair, but England were dominant in possession, albeit they failed to create the same number of chances in the second half, with Tunisia doubling down in defence. England toiled to find an equaliser yet the introduction of Marcus Rashford and Ruben Loftus-Cheek added some spark before Kane diverted a flick on from a Kieran Trippier corner to spark wild celebrations amongst the English supporters and players.

Panama meanwhile were pretty unremarkable as they lost 3-0 against Belgium on Monday. They were mammoth underdogs going into the tie, and even though Belgium were fairly one-dimensional in the first half, they managed to kick on against a tiring Panama after the break with Dries Mertens’ goal a particular highlight.

If Los Canaleros wilt in the same fashion on Sunday, it should be a fairly straightforward afternoon’s work for the Three Lions who could secure victories in their first two World Cup matches since the 2006 tournament. There will be changes made by Gareth Southgate with Loftus-Cheek expected to come in for the injured Dele Alli while the lively Rashford could replace Sterling in the starting lineup.

Whoever they decide to select, England should be too strong for the Panamanians, who will surely put up a brave fight but lack the quality to truly challenge England. Back in March, Hernan Dario Gomez’ side were thrashed 6-0 by Switzerland and if Southgate’s side hit the ground running, they could rack up a big score.
