Netherlands vs England Betting Markets06/06/2019
England are back in action tonight, with silverware closely in their sights.
The Three Lions are facing the Netherlands in the Nations League semi-finals, where the winner will book a place in the competition’s first-ever final against Portugal this Sunday evening.
It’s another stage for Gareth Southgate’s men to shine on and they have been made the favourites for the upcoming clash. The Flying Dutchmen aren’t an easy team to rollover though, so we are expecting an interesting match-up tonight.
Fancy a bet on the fixture? We have picked out some Nations League odds for you.
Raheem Sterling to Score – 15/8
Harry Kane is often the man getting the goals for the Three Lions but in 2019, the side’s most prolific goalscorer has been Raheem Sterling. The 24-year-old has 4 goals in 2 games this calendar year, including that stunning hattrick over the Czech Republic last March.
With Kane seemingly out injured, England will be looking towards Sterling as their main source of goal output. As a versatile forward, the Manchester City player is often granted a free license under Southgate, where he is allowed to drift around the final third and make runs into the box.
Some would have Sterling down in being the Three Lion’s most important player and expectations will be put on his shoulders tonight. Against a stern Dutch side, England’s creativity will need to be on point if they are to break down the wall that is Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt. They will likely set up with a midfield three and look to restrict the space in-front of their backline through the figures of Frankie de Jong and Marten de Roon.
Frontrunners will be the key to surpass such a deep block and Sterling could be the man to do so. We saw something similar against Spain, with the Manchester City forward linking up nicely with Marcus Rashford to create openings in-behind the opposition’s back four.
England to Win and BTTS – 19/5
There is some strong value to be found in either team winning inside 90 minutes, with England being priced at 6/4 and the Netherlands as big as 21/10. Both sides certainly know where the back of the net is, as both nations have registered at least two goals in their last four fixtures.
Despite the individual qualities that the two teams boast though, neither are necessarily specialists in keeping clean-sheets. This is often the case at international level, making the BTTS market an interesting one for tonight. At 19/5, there is huge value in England prevailing without conceding at the back too.
Against Germany, we saw the Netherlands get exposed down the flanks and be punished from the ball being moved quickly into the box. When analysing the Three Lion’s system, this is a factor that could fall into play yet again. Through the likes of Sterling, Rashford and Jesse Lingard, Southgate will aim to put emphasis on his frontmen to cause havoc in and around the 18 yard box.
Hopefully, England can outscore their opponents. Picking a winner is tight, but both teams to sore does look like a likely outcome.
Over 2.5 Goals – EVENS
For those who like placing a punt based on some statistics, the over 2.5 goal market might be the top pick for you. At evens, there is the potential to make a bit of return on your stake and the numbers suggest that this is a likely outcome.
In both of England and Holland’s last two fixtures, there has been over 2.5 goals in all four games. England swept the floor with Montenegro and Czech Republic, putting five goals past both sets of opposition. The Three Lion’s strengths certainly lie with their offensive power and Southgate continues to do a great job in getting the most out of his attacking stars.
Netherlands are equally as dangerous going forward though, having put two past Germany and registering four against Belarus. Memphis Depay is their key man up top, with the Lyon forward being valued at 15/8 to score anytime. The energetic men in the middle like to work around Depay and you can count on him being granted a chance tonight.
Both these nation’s have the potential to hurt any opponent on the planet, so we could see the goals fly in tonight.
