Usyk vs Bellew: Can ‘Bomber’ Defy the Odds Again in his Farewell Fight?08/11/2018
What a career it has been for Tony Bellew.
From winning the World Cruiserweight title at his beloved Goodison Park to proving everyone wrong in stopping David Haye not once, but twice, the outspoken Liverpudlian has one last dance with destiny.
Saturday night sees ‘Bomber’ challenge pound for pound great Oleksandr Usyk for ‘all the marbles’ with the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine belts on the line.
Taking place in our home city of Manchester, the Arena will be packed full of boxing fans wanting to roar Bellew to victory one last time.
Usyk vs Bellew has got everyone talking. Can the scouser make a mockery of his underdog tag once again? Or will Usyk prove a step too far in his bid to achieve greatness?
All of these questions will be answered inside the ring on Saturday night. However, one thing is for sure, Betfred will be at the heart of the action with a wide range of available betting markets.
At the time of writing, Betfred make Usyk the 2/11 favourite, with Bellew priced at 4/1. As unlikely as it may seem in what looks to be Bellew’s last fight, a draw can be backed at a whopping 40/1.
There is plenty of time to tweet @Betfred with your very own bet requests, using their #PickYourPunt facility. If they can price it, they’ll come back to you with a link to the market that you have suggested.
There are dozens of #PickYourPunt bets already listed, with the below appealing to us as value picks.
Neither fighter to be knocked down @ 5/2 – Two heavy handed cruiserweights with 31 stoppage wins between them. Where is the appeal in backing this? Well, Bellew has only ever been stopped once and that was after having to cut weight dramatically to make the light heavyweight limit. Now up at his more natural cruiserweight, he’ll take some stopping. In the opposite corner, Usyk has never truly been troubled and, while a stoppage appears to Bellew’s best chance at success, 5/2 is a very generous price on both men staying on their feet.
Usyk to win by unanimous decision @ 5/2 – It hurts us to tip this one up as, like all UK fight fans, we’d love to see Bellew leave the sport on a high. However, at 5/2, it is hard to ignore that the Ukrainian has only ever lost a handful of rounds in his professional career. As mentioned, Bellew’s best chance of victory is via a knockout. If he doesn’t manage it, you’d have to back Usyk to box to a unanimous victory.
Bellew to win inside the distance @ 5/1 – ‘How can you back Bellew after tipping Usyk?’, we hear you ask. We’ll call this one a loyalty punt but are very much of the belief that Bellew’s best chance is to win before the final bell. He looks in great shape and, with his last four wins coming by way of stoppage, it is a brave move to doubt the Bomber once again.
Our nap of the fight is the 6/4 on the fight going the distance. For similar reasons as the 5/2 on neither fighter being knocked down, it will take a punch of epic proportions to stop two fighters full of heart. We really like the price on neither going down, but with slips and unbalanced shots always a possibility, the safer option is the 6/4 on the fight going to the scorecards.
We hope you’re looking forward to one of the biggest fights of the year as much as we are. Every belt is on the line as Tony Bellew bids to make history and leave the sport on the highest of highs.
